My CKUT Movement Museum co-host and friend Allison Elizabeth Burns is the executive producer of a very cool project, a 21st Century dance rock opera titled The Duck Wife. Based on an Inuit tale which was recorded by Arctic explorer Diamond Jenness sometime between 1913 and 1918, the Montreal dance company Inertia Productions has created a contemporary dance piece, with music written and performed by the band Grub Animal. Everything looks awesome, the dancers are spinning, the rockers are strumming their guitars, but there’s one thing missing: good old cash.
The Duck Wife wants to tour the Fringe Festival circuit this summer (Montreal: June 12 – 19, Ottawa: June 20 – 27, Toronto: June 30 – July 11, Edmonton: August 12 – 22, 2010), but they need to raise the necessary funds. So, they’ve signed up to Kickstarter.com in an effort to raise the $5,000 they need. Here’s how you can help:
Check out http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theduckwife/the-duck-wife-21st-century-rock-opera-busts-it-all, where you can see a video introducing the project and some background material giving you some sense of what The Duck Wife is all about. If you want to support this group of amazing young artists, you can make a pledge (as low as $5, and the sky is the limit. Thank you gifts start at $5!).
As I am writing this, The Duck Wife has 26 backers, $1,361, and 27 days left to go until the deadline. If they don’t raise the $5,000 they need the project doesn’t happen and your pledged money will be returned to you.
So, come on, people, get a move on!
